Album Review

SHARIDAN M. ALI

I WAS rather sceptical of reviewing a debut album from a Lady GaGa – a blonde clad in a tight black cat suit. But after going through a hell of a electro-techno rollercoaster ride, I must admit that she deserves to be crowned the next disco pop princess.

Born Joanne Stefani Germanotta, Lady GaGa has churned out fresh dance numbers with a mixture of Kylie Minogue, Gwen Stefani and Madonna music.

Anybody who loves these three divas will like Lady GaGa’s electro-glam songs in this album that also boasts David Bowie influence and Queen quirkiness.

The Fame opens with Just Dance featuring Colby O’Donis, a number that’s rapidly climbing up the pop dance chart. Love Game and Paparazzi, which have a similarly upbeat and catchy tune, are just as groovy, while Money Honey is sassy. I am certain that her dance music will quickly rank among the favourites of club DJs.

Beautiful, Dirty, Rich has a sultry, sexy arrangement that is complemented well by Lady GaGa’s husky voice.

And the girlish pop number, Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), proves that this girl can indeed sing.

Avid clubbers may go gaga over this album.

Album Review: Lady worth going gaga over

By: Amy Holiday

Released in United States: October 28, 2008
Genre: Dance-Pop, R&B
Label: Interscope, Kon Live, Streamline
Grade: B

She's kind of like Madonna. And whether that's an incredible compliment or an embarrassing association, Lady Gaga has created an album that rivals the signature sound of the "Queen of Pop."

She's a 22-year-old New York native with a mop of slick hair that's always changing colors, with audacious dance moves and spicy, coy lyrics.

But that's not to say that her first album release, The Fame, doesn't deserve the accolades it's been receiving. In fact, for a professional musical career that's only a year old, Lady Gaga has managed to create a name for herself in the flighty worlds of pop and R&B......Read more

Lady Gaga listed at #3 on AOL's 10 Women Who Rock 2008

AOL Music has included Lady Gaga in their list of 10 Women Who Rock in 2008 at #3!!!

10 Women Who Rock: No. 3

Who: Lady Gaga
Sound: Dance-pop

Lady Gaga (a reference to Queen's 'Radio Ga Ga') worked her way from performing in grungy New York clubs to securing a record deal by the time she was 20. Her theatrical style has earned her a fan in fellow musicians; the Pussycat Dolls and New Kids on the Block both enlisted her writing talents.

Album Review - "The Fame"

By: Jeff Hounshel
Grade | B-

n simplest terms, Lady GaGa's debut album "The Fame" is really a musical experiment in theater, fun and frivolity.

Lady GaGa, whose childhood idols not surprisingly include Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, has managed to create an album of interesting, if not question-inducing, songs perfectly suited for the dance floor. And depending on the listener's tastes, this could be a good or a bad thing.

What is notable about the album is its flair for drama. It's hard to take almost anything about it seriously - especially in the song "LoveGame," where she declares that she wants to "take a ride on your disco stick." Lyrically, topics range from being too drunk to do anything but dance in "Just Dance" to being addicted to living as the rich and famous in the title track to playing hard to get in "Poker Face." It's almost as if she has created the perfect soundtrack to the life of Paris Hilton.

While "Just Dance" has enjoyed worldwide chart success, it's hard to determine the best tracks from weaker tracks. Almost all of the songs are insanely catchy, but what sticks out from the rest is "Brown Eyes," the lone ballad in which she describes how she has to leave a relationship. Although it's lost in a sea of fast-paced dance tracks, the song perhaps offers a glimpse of a serious, contemplative Lady GaGa.

"The Fame," despite being fluffy in content, works for the most part thanks to Lady GaGa's attitude and willingness to be completely and utterly out there. After all, in a world with war and economic crises, it might be nice to escape for awhile.

Indecent exposure

Two distinct reactions ensued when dance-pop diva Lady GaGa recently strolled into a San Francisco café wearing hot pants, platform heels, a fedora and a see-through top.

The jaws of every male patron hit the floor, while the eyes of their gal pals narrowed to slits.

The girl, currently in the midst of a national tour opening for (wait for it) New Kids on the Block, can't help it. She cuts a colorful wake wherever she goes. And she couldn't care less.

"I really scare myself sometimes — the nerve that I have," says GaGa, born Stefani (as in Gwen, go figure) Germanotta. A convent-schooled New Yorker, she re-imagined herself as an outrageous 1980s disco queen three years ago......Read more

MUSIC Lady Gaga: Dancing queen

by Amy Matheny

She's a petite, platinum blonde with a mighty big voice. She's the Blondie of this generation, mixed with an originality that evokes Grace Jones. Her style, her talent, her performances all make Lady Gaga one unique performer. Her single, Just Dance, catapulted to number one this summer on iTunes dance downloads. So the anticipation is high for the release this week of her CD, The Fame. And if you came to Windy City Gay Idol, you were lucky enough to see her perform and possibly meet her. She is the real deal.

Christina Aguilera Doesnt know Lady Gaga!?

Well it be obvious Lady Gaga is a LADY!! Hence the term Lady Gaga but xtina claims she doesnt know the new pop diva!! Id say people are gunna take that the wrong way!!! Xtina never ment it as a rude bite back. Here is what she said:

What do you say to those on the Internet who are hinting that you borrowed Lady Gaga’s look?

You know, that’s funny that you mention that. This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure. I really don’t spend any time on the Internet, so I guess I live a little under a rock in that respect.
